Broad functions of WPC Wing

	Exercising all statutory functions of the Central Government under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 and Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933
	Assignment of frequencies for all the wireless networks of government as well as private sectors, including service providers in the country
	Coordination with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT)
	Notification and registration of frequency assignments and geostationary satellite orbit location with ITU
	Fulfilling treaty obligations on behalf of Government of India as contained in international treaties of the ITU and APT
	Siting clearance of all wireless installations in the country concerning Standing Advisory Committee on Radio Frequency Allocations (SACFA)
	All national and international radio regulatory matters
	Radio frequency spectrum management and orbit/frequency coordination
	Frequency coordination with all wireless users in the country to ensure interference free operation of wireless networks
	Licensing of all wireless stations in the country under Indian Telegraph Act, 1885
	Formulation of National Frequency Allocation Plans (NFAP)
	Licensing of Radio Officers on board Ships and Aircrafts and Radio Amateurs and conduct of Proficiency examinations

	Measurement of technical parameters of wireless networks to ensure compliance with the technical and operating conditions of license
	Determining Spectrum occupancy/vacancy and circuit loading
	Participate in International monitoring activities concerning spectrum management
	Monitoring for selection of interference free sites for wireless stations
	Technical assistance to wireless user organisations
	Inspection of radio installations for checking technical, operational, regulatory and licensing conditions
	Radio noise measurements to check radio pollution environment for mutual compatibility with radio communication services
	Investigation of cases of harmful interference and suggest remedial actions thereof
